2nd Day - Church Retreat and Youth Dinner

Our 2nd day is about to begin and there is no assurance of our exact schedule, but we will be going to a church retreat of our mission, Antiguo Cuscatlan, and this evening having a Christmas Dinner with the youth! It should be a great day of fellowship and building up the Body! More to follow...

We´re at the end of the second day here in San Salvador... we´re tired but smiling.

Today we spent lots of time with the churches here - we met for praise and worship, we played some soccer and volleyball, we chatted and made crafts, we cooked, we sang, and we laughed. It is abslolutely refreshing to pass sunny hours with such warm and loving brothers and sisters in Christ (not to mention in such a beautiful climate and tropical scenery).

Although Travis was feeling a little sick last night and this morning, God answered out prayers, and Travis was back to himself by this afternoon.

But we do have a few more prayer requests: 1) Paul is feeling a sore throat coming on - please prayer that nothing develops, as he´s the one leading us in worship these days; 2) Alexandra (Rolando´s wife) is feeling very ill - aside from being a close friend of ours, she is integral to our team´s effort as a translator, organizer, and driver; 3) Pastor Mike met a lady on the plane returning to El Salvador for her mother´s funeral; he spoke with her during the flight, and she called the church today looking to set up an appointment to speak with him this week (she appears to be a Christian as well, too); 4) Sunday will be a huge day for us - leading worship, leading children´s church, throwing a rather impromptu block party in ciudad obrero, and then returning to another church service that evening; 5) this is a more personal note, but I´m praying that none of the border officials gives us any flack about Andy´s papers -- they´re all in order, but it´s still a little bit of a complicated situation.

So there´s a lot going on here -- we appreciate your prayers;we need them. And please keep us in your prayers, especially tomorrow.

From Karen Ward,

Bendiciones,
bendiciones,
bendiciones!
Blessings,
blessings,
blessings!
It is such a joy to be here in El Salvador and so exciting to watch others fall in love with our extended church family here. It is great fun to observe the many creative ways people communicate when they don´t speak the same language. Will and Harrison didn´t have any trouble playing hour upon hour with children they´ve never met who don´t speak English. Watching Paul try to keep up with Rosita on the guitar was hilarious. Jason, upside down, on playground rings was quite a sight.
The team is staying in a hotel here which is a new experience for FCC and it is much easier on the church families. Time is flying and tomorrow is a VERY busy day. We´ll be in three different churches and with you in spirit. Dios te bendiga!
hermana Karen

What an incredible day!! Most of the day was spent in a retreat with our partner church. We had an incredible time of worship and a Bible study on unity from Ephesians 4. Then we played football (soccer) while some of the team helped kids make beads and Bethany painted fingernails!! We finished with a swim and it was so much fun watching Levi throw El Salvador kids and Harrison and Will into the pool. We then spent a couple hours at a museum dedicated to the civil war here. It was a beautiful setting, but sad to think about all the people who were killed! We then went to get ice cream (very popular decision). The evening was spent with the youth from the mother church in worship, fellowship, and pupusas!! Today was wonderful!

Wow. That´s all I can say. The people here are so nice. The El Salvadorian people are so patient with those of us who don´t know Spanish that well...

We played soccer today. It was really fun and really crazy. There must have been 20 people on the field when we started. Many of the people playing were EXCELLENT soccer players. I was not one of them, but it was fun watching Pastor Mike, Paul, and Jason Dailey. Many head shots were made and some gut shots as well.

Andi, Grace, and Courtney got to make Pupusas (sp??) tonight with the ladies from the ¨mother¨church. I´m not sure how many were made, but I don´t think it would be an exaggeration to say it was in the hundreds. Wow! They were making them for quite a while. While they were making them, Paul and some of the youth/college kids played songs. One of the many songs that Paul did was the song by Shane McDonald (I think) that he played at Paul and Alana´s wedding. One of the other guys joined in on the drums kind of spur of the moment. It was really neat.

Harrison and Will are having so much fun playing soccer and basketball and all kinds of other kid games that get made up on the spur of the moment (all with them speaking English and the other kids speaking Spanish). I see Andy translating between the kids a lot and teaching them.

I read LevĂ´s comment and he did sum up the prayer requests. Please pray also for the VBS that is starting tomorrow (Sunday). It sounds like there may be many more kids than were expected. That is awesome. We just need prayer that we have enough supplies, etc.

It was an exciting and fun day. I can´t wait to see what tomorrow holds. Please keep everyone here in your prayers.

I'm so glad to hear everyone is having such a good time. Rewarding, but very tiring I imagine.
We had possible tornadoes in the heartland last night. A wicked storm came through yesterday about 5. They said winds were gusting about 60 miles per hour. Not a lot of lightning, but certainly a lot of rain. They were in and out of the area in about 30 minutes but picked up intensity when they got to Illinois. There were tornado warnings out for the counties just east of the Mississippi. The temperatures here Friday and Saturday were in the 60s and even as high as a few 70s. Today has dawned sunny and cold. There was a cold front that came through after the storm. Enough about the weather.
Could someone please tell me how to get in touch with Jason? He tried to call yesterday and as soon as I answered the phone we were disconnected. If he can email me my address is gdailey9@hotmail.com.
Keep posting comments because I check them everyday to see how things are going. I'm praying for your safe travels, wellness, and for the people you're witnessing to. Have fun!!!
